A poorly Dillon dog

Our dog Dillon was at the vets yesterday for some Xrays and dental work, he’s 15 so I was super worried about him but like the trooper that he is he was fine. Getting that call to say he’d woken up and was okay was amazing, a tidal wave of emotions and relief washed over me – I’d spent all day tense and trying to keep busy, after the call I was euphoric!

Picking him up from the vets was again filled with happiness, when he saw me and started wagging his tail, bless him. So he’s recovering well, just waiting on news from the Xrays.

So if you’ve got a four legged friend at home then give them an extra hug and be thankful that they’re in your lives as they bring so much joy and ask you for so little in return. Here’s a pic of him from last week, isnt he gorgeous!

Some new finds to read and watch

I love reading blog and more recently watching video’s on youtube so I thought I’d share a few recent finds and old favourites.

Blogs: (I use BlogLovin to ‘store’ all the blogs I follow, super easy sign up then just search for or add the url of the blogs you like and new posts will be updated there, so you can read them all in one place, dont forget to add me too!).

http://thepiepatch.wordpress.com – Meal planning, crafty crocheting (I really want to take it up as a new hobby) and CSP talk.

http://www.carolinehirons.com – A skincare guru, lots of info on what do to with your kind type and more importantly what not to do, the cheat sheets are always a good read.

http://www.mymaysunshine.com – Only came across this the other day when looking for organising inspiration, also she makes some beautiful cards. Again I’d love to get crafty again but there just never seems to be the time!

http://theimaginationtree.com – A long time favourite, I think every parent should have this bookmarked as there is just so much wonderful stuff! Since moving we’ve not done much crafty activities as some things appear to have gone missing along the way but I’m going to order replacements and have a craft/messy play day once a week for the girls.

Pinks Place – CSP and cup reviews.

A Model Recommends – Beauty, skincare and other bits, makes me feel like I’m keeping upto date with make up and things when really I barely even wear it! Ruth’s video’s are interesting, funny and easy to watch – always a brilliant combo!

Amanda Muse – A Canadian mummy living in Malaysia, talking about her toddler and baby, beauty stuff, again just a lovely, funny lady to listen to.

The Bubblelush – US mummy of 2 kids, vlogs about them, crafty stuff, meal plans, general life etc. The yoga class fail video is super funny, another funny, lovely lady!

There are tons more but I’ll share some more next time, maybe even make it a monthly thing and if you have any to share then please let me know in the comments.

Gorgeous fabric and pads alert

So my wetbag I ordered from Sew Sew Nice arrived last week and the fabric is gorgeous, the bag is beautifully made but I’m seriously not sure I even want to use the bag now as it’s just so pretty! The photo doesnt do it enough justice but it’s a lovely soft smooth almost silk like feel to it as well.

Sew Sew Nice wetbagAnd you can have the print (which is summer night lights twilight) made as a dress as well! If only I have the spare pennies! So do go check out Sew Sew Nice as there are a ton of beautiful fabrics that I havent seen anywhere else and follow on Facebook for any offers.

DDB pads

And some more fluffy post for me arrived, some super pretty pads from Dinky Dot Bots, these arent the custom ones I ordered but a sneaky order I got from Feminine Wear, as I just loved the heart print so much and because I wanted to try them out asap! I think FW have sold out of the DDB atm but I hear there are more on order and FW is a great place to order a few different types of pads and cups from lots of different brands. Again the pads are so well made, no wonky stitching or anything, simply lovely, I will definitely be ordering more customs from DDBs, as I do prefer a slightly longer pad, and you can choose a more flared pad, different lengths or different centre stitching etc, really customisable. You can follow DDB on Facebook or see the amazing custom CSP and nappies on their site here – honestly a custom nappy for Izzy is high on my wish list atm! Will do a full review once my custom order arrives but they really are a work of art!

Still havent gotten round to finishing off the new look on the blog, we’re doing a big garden make over this week so hopefully once things have settled down I can get caught up with my ever growing to do list.

A fresh new look

As you can see there is a new Fluffy Mummy look coming to town, I still have some fonts, social media icons and bits to set up so bear with me whilst I tinker around with it all for the next few days – I kinda know what I’m doing…………….I think!

Huge thanks to the lovely Jen at Magic Feather Designs for keeping her sanity whilst I changed my mind on what I wanted ever other day! But once I found the super cute handprints I was sold! I can just imagine Chloe and Izzy doing them together – in fact I might get a canvas and get them to do some for our wall!

Anyhow thanks again to Jen, and once I’ve figured out what goes where normal service shall resume!

Real Nappy Week best buys shopping

So RNW is coming to an end, dont forget to finish entering all the competitions if you want a chance of some free fluff, see post here. And of course most of the discounts and offers are coming to a close as well, I spent all my pennies (and more!) but this will probably be our last RNW to enjoy buying fluff. So here is what we bought, there’s still some on order but quite a few bits have arrived – dont you just love getting that fluffy mail from the post man!

Itti Tutto in Pow

So I started off buying an Itti Tutto and matching wetbag from The Nappy Stash I’d not shopped with them before but they stock Itti prints – Tuttos, D’Lish and Boo’s! And there’s 15% off, free delivery on all orders and a free gift on orders over £30 (I got the CJ’s sample as my freebie, always good to have!). They also stock BumGenius, Tots Bots, CJ’s Butter and lots more, delivery was super quick and you get a lovely personalised dispatch email from Jo which is lovely! So glad I found them as now I know where to get my Itti fix! Their Facebook page is here, well worth following for any special offers they might have in the future. I also went back later in the week and ordered one of the new Tots Bots V4 Binkys as I *needed* one to update my review…………………and the Incy Wincy print is just so cute!

BG V4's from Baba Me

Then I went shopping at Baba Me as they had 20% off everything and had the new colour BG’s in – yes I know I said I didnt need them but they are just so pretty and summery! So I ordered them in the V4 pockets and an Albert print fell into the basket as well, as did a cute BG wetbag which I think will be perfect for CSP storage! And a bag of Eco Sprout nappy detergent, as I’ve run out of Rocking Green and every now and then I like to give the nappy a good wash with ‘proper’ nappy detergent. Oh and I also got a free bag of Flip disposable inserts, which we dont use but can always save for travelling with our GroVia AI2’s. By the way my kitchen lighting does not do the new colours justice – they really do pop, here’s another pic of them and the really cute wetbag!

BG Hummingbird and CountessBG wetbag

Then it was off to Kingdom of Fluff as I wanted a few more AppleCheek nappies and their extra bamboo inserts as they are just so good and there was 15% off! So the new Pink All About it and Lemon Zest colours jumped in the basket with extras of the bamboo inserts – they really are amazing, absorbent, fast drying – pretty much perfect for me and that’s saying a lot! And I have seen that there’s a new limited edition being released on the 15th May so I’ll be stalking the AppleCheeks facebook page.

Applecheeks haul

And then I went over to My Little Patch and ordered some mini wetbags and they have such a gorgeous range of fabric and 10% off. I love both of these fabrics so so much!

My Little Patch bags

And I also ordered but they have yet to arrive as they were custom orders; some CSP from Dinky Dot Bots, and (another) custom wetbag from Sew Sew Nice as they had 20% off and again some gorgeous fabric (hello wetbag addiction!). And that’s it, I’d so buy more but the bank would seriously be sad, I’ve been saving up for RNW since the start of the year, a few pounds here and there so yay for fluffy shopping – especially with a discount! I hope you got some lovely bargains or have spotted some offers I’ve mentioned on my RNW discount post here. And I really hope you found some new retailers like I did or ordered some new nappies to try as it’s the perfect time to try someone different whether it be an AI2 nappy, fitteds or an expensive custom!

Anyhow, enjoy the rest of the bank holiday and do let me know what you bought or if you found somewhere fab and new to shop!

Real Nappy Week 2014 giveaways and competitions

Okay so following on from my RNW offers post here, today I’m hopefully going to explain the two main competitions that run during RNW. You still have plenty of time to enter and I’m guessing the majority of people will have already completed them both but if you’re like me and generally leave everything till the last minute or are confused about what’s going on then hopefully this helps!

Firstly there is The Great British Nappy Hunt which have bonus prizes up for grabs on their facebook page here but the main event as such is of course the nappy hunt! Basically you sign up here and then you go and search the sites that are participating and donating prizes and once you find the Billy image with the word on, click him and it will take you to another page where you enter the word you saw and it will record your entry for that site. It finishes at Midnight on Sunday 4th May, so there’s still a few days left to get searching and win those lovely fluffy prizes, see here for the full list.

But if all that seems like hard work then there is another option (or an extra way to win if you fancy completing both!). There is a baby hunt this year, which is the same as above but it’s an image of Billy and his baby sister Bella and is quicker but still has some lovely prizes – see here. Again this finishes at Midnight on the 4th May. I think I’ll start with the Baby one and see how I go! and dont forget to check each sites facebook page in case they’ve posted any clues as to where Billy might be hiding or just to check out their RNW offers! Good Luck!

Next there’s the Reusable Nappy Association that I think is a little bit easier as there are clues! So everyday on the facebook page above there is a Gold Spot prize from a different retailer, with a simple link to a rafflecopter entry form. Super simple!

And there is an online Reusable Pursuit and an in person Passport Pursuit you can play. For the Passport Pursuit have to collect a sticker from a real live event or meet up and then collect another sticker from either another event or from shopping at a local store or online. Then sending them off to be in with a chance to win, all info is here. But if that is something you’re not likely to be able to do then fear not, the online Reusable Pursuit is for you!

So the Reusable Pursuit is super easy, it’s a massive rafflecopter based system, so you go here to start and there are lots of easy ways to enter by simply liking (lots) of fluffy nappy facebook pages. And then for each participating website there are 5 questions, which have a clue to where the Pursuit logo is hiding on their site, you find it and the copy and paste the URL into each of the boxes. So there’s 5 pieces hiding on each site, or if you cant be bothered with the clues, some are easy and some more cryptic then you can just do as the GBNH and just search the site for the pieces.

I hope that all makes sense, find things and win basically! I’ve never won anything in a RNW competition but there’s always a first time and I never usually complete everything, I just do some until I get bored as there is possibly hours worth of work to be had!

Good luck hunting and clue solving!

Real Nappy Week 2014 offers, giveaways and competitions

RNW14 logo

I know I’m a little late to the party this year but I’m feeling awful and better late than never I guess. Whilst grabbing a bargain or even winning some fluff is always fab, do remember the real aim of RNW is to spread the fluffy word and get more parents thinking and hopefully using cloth. So do tag non cloth using friends in giveaways, loan some fluff to a friend to try, chat about all the fun your having during RNW at a local playgroup with other mums, go mad on instagram and #flashyourfluff and #realnappyweek on twitter etc!

And for more info on Real Nappy events in your area, nappy libraries or for some general cloth info for a newbie head towards www.goreal.org.uk.

So here’s this years list, I’ll do another post about the two main competitions running this year, but for now happy shopping and if anything doesnt work or you spot anything else then please leave a comment!

Real Nappy Week 2014 is coming and fluffy mail catch up

I cant believe it’s that time again, Real Nappy Week is nearly here! It starts on Monday and there are already a few retailers putting up their offers early so if you’re after something then do check everyone’s Facebook pages for codes or what have you.

The main places to check on giveaways etc are

The Real Nappy Week’s facebook page here

The Great British Nappy Hunt’s facebook page here

Sadly we dont really need anything but I do have a few things written down, the 2 new BG colours are on my list, they’re so bright and lovely, so hopefully they’ll be a good discount or offer on those somewhere. I also might stock up on some Rocking Green, Violets, Eco Sprout or what have you, as I do like to have some nappy safe laundry powder in and give the nappies a good wash in it every now and then. Also some more Applecheeks and some of the brilliant bamboo inserts they do – I want extra so I can use them in other nappies. I’m going to have a bit of a destash soon and will probably only be using Applecheeks, a few BG elementals/V4s, GroVia AI2 and a few ‘pretty/custom nappies’. Oh and thinking about it maybe I should get a few training pants, as who knows when Izzy might start, I’ve heard second children PT faster as they want to be like their bigger siblings, so thinking ahead!

Actually that looks like quite a bit! Good thing it’s just been payday!

So onto fluffy mail, we’ve again all been poorly for the last few weeks, the kiddies get sick and then when they’re starting to recover I come down with it, fun! I really need to up my vitamin intake and maybe start the day with a power packed smoothie or something!

But anyway here is our most recent fluffy mail,

KoF fluffy mail

From the lovely Laura at Kingdom of Fluff some more of the AppleCheeks and inserts whilst she had the offer running on them, and new version Pop In so I can update my review – love the print so much!

CSP fluffy mailAnd then (please excuse the dark pic) some fluffy mail for me! Some CSP (I think it’s also being called AMP – Alternative Menstruation Protection) and some gorgeous wetbags. Again I ordered whilst there was an offer running at My Little Patch, they stock DimpleBum CSP and then do matching wetbags and they stock the new Cheeky Wipes CSP, reviews on all to follow. Was nice to get some mail for me for a change! I love the double wetbag at the back and hopefully might get another in a bigger size. The small ones at the front are pad pods, that fit a single pad in and are pul lined so you can discreetly carry a spare with you in your handbag – fab idea!

Right off to go get some fresh air with the girls and hopefully get rid of this lurgy, I’ll try and post RNW offers on the Fluffy Mummy facebook page (I really need to start using it more) and maybe post about a few really great bargains on the blog.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

AppleCheeks mini review and discount code

Our current favourite nappies at the minute for Izzy are AppleCheeks, not only because they look super cute and fit really well but because teamed up with their amazing inserts they work really well and are a breeze to use. The full review from 2011 when we first tried them is here – it is on my list of things to update but the I think I actually like them more now then I did then!

AppleCheeks mail

So I ordered these from the lovely Laura at Kingdom of Fluff a few weeks ago along with 1 of each of the three different inserts they make so I could test them all out. A standard stay dry, a 2 layer bamboo trifold and a 3 layer bamboo trifold and I have to say I like them all but for general day to day the 2 play one is amazing and dries super quick and the 3 ply is fab for long naps etc although it does give a fat bum but the trade off is well worth it going 5 hours once with no leaks!

AppleCheeks insertsThe mf insert did a  perfectly good job – especially when boosted with a LL bamboo booster but the bamboo ones are a winner for me. If you’ve got a heavy wetter then go straight for the 3 ply but otherwise I’d say go for the 2 ply as you can always add a booster if needed. And of the best things about these nappies is that the inserts agitate out in the wash on their own, yay! I’m not usually a fan of pockets as OH always ‘forgets’ to give the insert a tug before putting in the wetbag and some are fiddly to stuff. But not these, every time the inserts have come out in the wash without me doing anything to them beforehand and that’s with using the AC inserts and sometimes a combination of my own And they are super easy to stuff as the opening is near the middle and opens up wide so no thin narrow tunnel to stuff and having to make sure it all lays flat etc, it’s super easy.

Inside AppleCheeksAnd lastly the fit, as they have that elasticated bit at the front, they really seem to hug Izzy’s belly, with no gapey bits. It’s nice and stretchy but gentle elastic too and doesnt leave any red marks, I love the fit of them and think the slight ruffles make them stand out and look really cool for summer. They come in two sizes, we’re using the size 2 and if I had another LO I wouldnt hesitate to get these in the size 1, I bet they’d be great.

AppleCheeks fitAppleCheeks side

They are my favourite nappy at the minute, so much so I’ve just bought a few more, the new print and the gorgeously summery orange, again with the 2 ply inserts, of course you could use you’re own inserts and I have plenty of bamboo boosters and inserts but I love the ease of the trifold, just one big piece to hang up to dry, fold and stuff, no hunting around for 2 or 3 different pieces etc. I really love the grey colour they do as well and the yellow looks super summery but I think I’ll have to stop myself for now unless I sell all our other nappies first and replace with AppleCheeks (and believe me I’m tempted to!)

AppleCheeks Love HappensAppleCheeks Orange You GladAppleCheeks Winging ItAppleCheeks Envelope Cover: Steel Me

So lastly until monday 14th April, Laura at Kingdom of Fluff is doing 10% off the AppleCheeks range with the code APPLES Even if you’re not a pocket lover you should try these as they are just so simple to use and they can also be used as an AI2 if you prefer and as I said you can use your own inserts to keep costs down but the inserts are definitely awesome,

More fluffy news

BG Countess

So following on from the fluffy news I posted in feb (read all about it here), when I said I found it odd BumGenius didnt bring out a new girl colour along with the new Hummingbird (green-y) colour and I even mentioned a new hot pink would be nice. Well they of course must have heard me as soon after they announced Countess to the line up – a hot pink! Can’t say I’m a fan of the name, but I much prefer the colour itself more than the old Zinnia colour. This should be available at BG stockists asap!

BG Audrey

But they weren’t done there oh no! There is a new print as well, called ‘Audrey’ which is very cool, I really love it but sadly we dont need anymore nappies! There is no stock here yet and no eta on when it’s coming in but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be very popular. Baba Me are the UK distributors of BG and so it’s worth following them on Facebook as they tend to do the best offers on BG nappies and have all the updates etc.

Pop In new prints

And there is new stuff from Close as well for 2014, new prints, a slight tweak on the Pop In nappies and a newborn nappy!!! So prints first, here are Russian Dolls, Lions, Robots and Hippos! I love them all but sadly they are still only available in velcro, which we’re not a fan of so even if we needed new nappies we wouldnt get these, a real shame as Pop Ins are really great nappies.

Close New Gen V2

But they have slightly updated the Pop In design and changed a few things. They are now called the New Gen V2 and the laundry tabs are now moved to the sides of the nappy and concealed so it doesn’t touch baby’s skin and simply pulls out for washing. Which is a fab improvement as one of my big bears about the old version (see here) was that it was such a pain to do up the laundry tabs when they were in the middle of the nappy. But still please bring them out in snaps! The elastic at the back of the soaker has been removed to speed up drying time and the back poppers have been replaced with tab poppers for improved comfort. Please not that due to the change of poppers, soakers and boosters are not compatible with previous versions of the Pop-in nappy. Fill your Pants have the new Gen V2 Pop Ins they are £16.95 and the prints only come in the bamboo inner material.

Close new bibsClose new car seat protectors

Close new playmat

But the new prints are also available in their bib range, swim nappies, car seat protectors, training pants and in their awesome new playmats – which I would love to get to use as a picnic blanket as it’s soft on one side and waterproof on the other.

Close newborn

Okay so then on to the newborn nappy and all it’s cuteness – sadly these only come in the pastel shades, no prints yet! But they look to be a great newborn option, you can get them from the Close website for £39.99 for a pack of 10 double sided inserts and 6 shells. Weight range: 5-12lbs, 2-5.5kgs.

Close newborn shellClose newborn inner

The front section is contoured to sit below the umbilical cord rather than over it and the nappy itself is much slimmer,, the outerwrap can be easily be wiped clean and re-used if not soiled, leaving you to just switch the insert over come change time. The clever double sided inserts means you can choose between 100% soya or stay dry suede cloth against baby’s delicate skin. I would definitely be getting these if we had another squish, yes they only come in velcro but that’s totally fine for a newborn nappy, it gives the best fit and you dont use them for long. These are really well designed…………. I am not feeling broody, I am not feeling broody!

Bambooty Basics

Lastly there is a new nappy on the block from Bambooty called Basics which are £10 each!!! They are a BTP AI2 and I actually snapped one up when they launched a few months ago as they reminded me so much of Itti Bitti nappies which are now super hard (and expensive) to get hold of over here. They have that same soft minky outer, sadly no prints in the Basics line yet but there are 15 block colours to choose from.

Now there was an issue with the first stock of Basics nappies, they quickly sent out an email to say they had noticed the inserts had not been as expected and were only 2 layers of micro-fibre not 3 as expected. So they gave you the option of a refund or they were happy to include a 3 layer bamboo booster – which is the option I took. Please note this issue has been fixed now and all current stock is the 3 layer. I will do a review in due course, we definitely needed to use the booster but for £10 these are a great little stash filler of a nappy!

I think that’s all the nappy news for now, although of course as soon as I post this someone will announced something new – just watch!
